ETHICAL Delphi Process

Welcome to the ETHICAL Delphi Process regarding the formulation of a consensus on Ethical Implications of Data collection, use and retention for Biometric and Medical Applications.

The ETHICAL Delphi Process - a structured procedure of virtual face to face expert consultations - is a key component of the ETHICAL project’s work, and will be launched in 3 rounds:

The first round will give you an opportunity to respond to approximately 16 priority questions that have arisen from within ETHICAL’s research activities. The opportunity will be presented for you to respond to these questions as fully as you wish by using the online survey. In addition, there are a number of supplementary questions where your input is invited. We appreciate your input and would encourage you to offer your responses to the questions as fully and as openly as you can.

Following the first round of responses, the ETHICAL dialogue moderators will review the comments received and will distil out key messages. These will be presented back to all participants as a set of clear statements. As a registered participant, you will be automatically invited to the second round of the Delphi process to rank those statements on a so-called Likert scale ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree, in order to determine the initial position of all each expert on all areas of interest.

In the consensus building round results will be re-presented to contributors in order to see where the weight of opinion rests and to have the opportunity to review their initial rankings.

The final results will be published as an ETHICAL project deliverable. Thus the individual comments and responses will not be visible to other experts or the public. If you are interested to see your individual comments published in the deliverable and/or the website of the project, we kindly invite you to send an email with the subject “Delphi” to the overall moderator: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The project furthermore invites you to a real time debate for ETHICAL experts within the ETHICAL website, where you can post your comments and receive real-time answers by others experts and the ETHICAL moderators.
